Your level of responsibility varies depending on the age of your fosters and the reason you are fostering. ?A cat recuperating from surgery may require more frequent trips to the vet than one who simply needs some one on one socialization before coming to the shelter. ?And a litter of kittens requires extra effort because you are taking on more than one cat.

Without question the toughest part is bringing your foster cat(s) back to the shelter and their adoption day is bittersweet indeed but knowing that you played such a big part in the life of a cat is beyond rewarding.
Our foster homes provide the space and time for cats to grow and heal before coming to Good Mews. ?Because of them we are better able to care for newborns, cats with medical conditions, and elderly cat returns. ?Having a roster of active foster homes is very important to the shelter particularly during kitten season. ?If you think you have the space in your home and heart, why not consider it?

Over the last 24 hours, all of the country has been scrambling to find out who the three lucky people who won a slice of the $640 million Mega Million jackpot are.
Quickly, social media gave us the first. Chris Cunningham ? a senior hospitality and tourism management major at Virginia Tech ? posted a picture of the winning ticket on his Twitter account less than an hour after the drawing and it took off from there.
There?s just one problem with the fairytale story: It was a hoax.
Cunningham and three friends Brian Evans, Matthew Folkemer and KJ Harkness saw the lottery as an opportunity to trick the entire world. The idea came to them while they were getting ready to go out like any other Friday night, when they had a better idea.
?We used Photoshop and made the ticket look very legit and we Tweeted it,? Cunningham said. ?All we Tweeted was, ?Our lives have changed.? All four of us Tweeted, but for some reason, everyone thought it was me. Next thing I knew, I blew up.
?We were literally just about to go out and we were like, ?We could drink tonight, or we could fool the world and get ourselves trending on Twitter,?? he said.
The plan worked, as Cunningham said he has been trending on Twitter all over the world, including in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Brazil. Cunningham now has more than 9,000 followers on Twitter and has seemingly become the most sought after bachelor in the country.
?I had girls saying they wanted to marry me, I had porn stars sending personal invites to come to their city,? Cunningham said. ?I?ve been hit up by Good Morning America, I?ve been hit up by CNN, UK, ESPN radio ? but it was an April Fools Joke. I didn?t win it.?
The groups? entire goal going into this was to try and get on Comedy Central?s show Tosh.0, hosted by comedian Daniel Tosh.
?That was literally the whole goal ? to get on Tosh.0,? Cunningham said.
Even as he got hundreds of messages all day from friends and media outlets, he stayed firmly attached to his goal, stating on Twitter, ??No interviews unless your name is Daniel tosh @danieltosh #CHAMonTOSH.?
That aspiration could very well be in the future too, as Comedy Central has contacted Cunningham this afternoon.
Cunningham earned his 15 minutes of fame by exploiting the flaws in relying on social media such as Twitter and has successfully pulled off one of the best April Fools pranks of all time.
?Through social media, we tricked all of these people,? Cunningham said. ?I haven?t gotten anything but phone calls all day.?
If there?s been one downside to a plan that seemingly could not have gone better, it is that his hometown of Martinsville, Va. is now in a frenzy thinking one of its residents has literally hit the jackpot.
Cunningham?s parents have had to unplug their phone from the wall because of all of the calls they were getting and didn?t know how to respond, as they were aware it was a joke as well.
?I told them last night I was going to try this to see if it would work,? he said. ?They didn?t think it would.?
But eventually, Cunningham will have to go home and admit that he isn?t going to be buying anything extravagant any time soon.
?My hometown thinks I?m a millionaire, and I?m going to have to tell everyone it?s a joke ? that?s going to suck," he said.?
Winning tickets were sold in Kansas, Illinois and Baltimore, Md. Out of those, Cunningham was claiming he had possession of the one bought in Baltimore, where he claimed he'd been to shoot a music video with Harkness, known as Killa J, earlier in the week.

Graphite, more commonly known as pencil lead, could become the next big thing in the quest for smaller and less power-hungry electronics.
Resembling chicken wire on a nano scale, graphene ? single sheets of graphite ? is only one atom thick, making it the world's thinnest material. Two million graphene sheets stacked up would not be as thick as a credit card.
The tricky part physicists have yet to figure out how to control the flow of electrons through the material, a necessary prerequisite for putting it to work in any type of electronic circuit. Graphene behaves very different than silicon, the material currently used in semiconductors.
Last year, a research team led by University of Arizona physicists cleared the first hurdle by identifying boron nitride, a structurally identical but non-conducting material, as a suitable mounting surface for single-atom sheets of graphene. The team also showed that in addition to providing mechanical support, boron nitride improves the electronic properties of graphene by smoothening out fluctuations in the electronic charges.
Now the team found that boron nitride also influences how the electrons travel through the graphene. Published in Nature Physics, the results open up new ways of controlling the electron flow through graphene.
"If you want to make a transistor for example, you need to be able to stop the flow of electrons," said Brian LeRoy, an assistant professor in the University of Arizona's department of physics. "But in graphene, the electrons just keep going. It's difficult to stop them."
LeRoy said relativistic quantum mechanical effects that come into play at atomic scales cause electrons to behave in ways that go against our everyday experiences of how objects should behave.
Take tennis balls, for example.
"Normally, when you throw a tennis ball against a wall, it bounces back," LeRoy said. "Now think of the electrons as tennis balls. With quantum mechanical effects, there is a chance the ball would go through and end up on the other side. In graphene, the ball goes through 100 percent of the time."
This strange behavior makes it difficult to control where electrons are going in graphene. However, as LeRoy's group has now discovered, mounting graphene on boron nitride prevents some of the electrons from passing to the other side, a first step toward a more controlled electron flow.
The group achieved this feat by placing graphene sheets onto boron nitride at certain angles, resulting in the hexagonal structures in both materials to overlap in such a way that secondary, larger hexagonal patterns are created. The researchers call this structure a superlattice.
If the angle is just right, they found, a point is reached where almost no electrons go through.
"You could say we created holes in the wall," LeRoy said, "and as soon as the wall has holes in it, we find that some of the tennis balls no longer go through. It's the opposite of what you would expect. That shows you how weird this is. It's all due to those relativistic quantum effects."
The discovery puts the technology a bit closer to someday being able to actually control the flow of electrons through the graphene, the authors of the paper said.
"The effect depends on the size of the hexagonal pattern resulting from the overlapping sheets," explained Matthew Yankowitz, a first-year graduate student in LeRoy's lab and the study's lead author.
The pattern, he explained, creates a periodic modulation of the potential ? picture a ball rolling across an egg carton.
"It's a purely electronic effect brought about by the structure of the two materials and how they sit on top of each other," Yankowitz said. "It's similar to the Moir? pattern you see when someone wears a striped shirt on TV."
As of now, the researchers are not yet able to control how the graphene and boron nitride end up oriented relative to each other when they combine the two materials. Therefore, they make many samples and check the structure of each one under an electron microscope.
"With our scanning tunneling microscope, we can get an image of each superlattice and measure its size," Yankowitz said. "We take a picture and see what the pattern looks like. If the hexagonal pattern is too small, the samples are no good and we throw them out."
Yankowitz said about 10 to 20 percent of samples showed the desired effect.
If it becomes possible to someday automate this process, graphene-based microelectronics might be well on their way to propel us from the silicon age to the graphene age.
